Caitlin Richardson is a vain, shallow (her words) stylist at Lauren's Salon Spa in Los Angeles.
David Lujan works at Lorencos in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His style includes long, naturally curly hair that he let's blow with a fan...constantly.
Caitlin's first question is "Where is New Mexico?"
Day One
David walks in with his "Hi, Holiday" He calls everyone sugar, holiday, or slut. Cornelia, his first client, is not happy about being callled slut. The color is not perfect. Lauren, the owner, a young, uptight woman, calls him on it, but he ignores her. She cries. Lauren and David argue about the hair fan, and David stubbornly won't compromise.
Day Two
David walks in apologizing about the slut thing, but he wants the fan. He keeps the fan. His next clients are twins with damaged blonde hair. Some of the stylists tried to make suggestions,but David worked it his way. In the end, they were still damaged, but they looked much better.
Day Three
This day is his mothers birthday, she had been dead ten years, and David wanted to celebrate her birthday. This softened Lauren 's attitude, and she shared her personal story about her father with him. Lisa Kline, his first client, has a clothing store and a very big event that evening. He does such a great job on her that she asks him to be her personal hairstylist at her red carpet event. He really brought his sunshine to the place.
And in High Desert Country.....
Day One
Caitlin is put to work right away, Denise is her first client. She learns that she has no assistant. Denise needs color, as her second client arrives. Caitlin takes five hours to make Denise look exactly as she did when she entered!!
Her next client is getting color as her third client arrives. another stylist, Stacy, takes that client. Caitlin realizes that this is a "move 'em in, move em out "kind of place, and she doesn't have to do perfect work.
Day Two
Caitlin is handed an employee handbook, and Caitlin challenges the rules. Her first client is very young, so she needs no color, but Caitlin spent time giving her a curly style.
Day Three
Senior citizens are her challenge for the last day. She changes their looks and they look fabulous! The others at the salon are constantly harassing her about time, but she steadfastly styles these women. She also established a great rapport with the seniors. In the end, the stylists gave her an enchilada party.
