Salon Tika is owned by Tara and Kristin, the daughters of Ralph. Ralph was a successful salon owner for many years, and he was training his daughters when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He handed the business over to his daughters before they were ready.
I was hoping the daughters wouldn't turn out to be lame, talentless, overly-entitled, spoiled-brat, princess darlings who would be pissed about someone coming in and upsetting their free ride at the First National Bank of Daddy. They DO have talent and DO care about dear old dad losing everything and ending up on the street, sick and all. Ralph is a sweetheart. Half a million is quite an investment, and Ralph seems to have no control over these girls as they label everything he says as "Old School". I suppose it's old school to have an accounting system and hours compatible to a working clients' schedule. The only schedule they were concerned about was the smoking schedule, to which Tabatha says "fuck off".....Gotta Love Tabatha!! A small-business related class or two at local adult continuing ed program or community college would'nt hurt these sorority-girls-without-the-education at all.
It also turns out they train their own staff. I don't know how the laws work in each state, but it was a way for them to hire their friends. Lauren shouldn't have been allowed near clients at all.
One of the things Tabatha does is have them put "For Rent" signs in the window, that supposedly shook them up. Personally, I think bankrupt parents moving in with them would do the trick!!
In a brilliant move, Tabatha has them get together with other local businesses and host a "Salon Happy Hour" to promote the business.
After the transformation, the girls seem to take Tabatha's advice...maybe a little too easily..Six weeks later, they still seem to be on track. I hope Bravo TV keeps this one. After the loss of Project Runway to Lifetime Television, and that crime-against-humanity "Date My Ex", , they could use some quality programming, IMO.
